Middle of winter and we’re hatching Tilapia. The first batch in the new aquarium. Perhaps 70?! I will leave the fry in the tank with the breeding group for now, but am a little concerned that they will be eaten. So far it seems that the mother is protecting them.

The 300 litre aquarium is running well. The water is running clear with the filter I built last weekend ( the bucket you see on the left)
I keep the water at a constant 29 degrees celcius with a 200 watt thermostat. I keep adding fresh duckweed. Fish eat it at quite a rate.

This fish died when it jumped out of the new glass aquarium tank. Today I sexed the fish as best I could and left what I hope to be 1 male and 5 females in the aquarium tank. I returned 15 others back outside to the 1 kl tank.

Lynn and Daryl, a mother and son team run this DIY timber recycling operation on old cape road. Saves the forests, creates jobs and recycles, while at the same time providing me with cheap timber for my backyard projects. Great.

The Hot House complete in 2011. With hindsight the timber boards warp quite badly wont use them again.

I bought 12 wild plum trees (Harpephylum Cafrum) from Oshry nursery on Saturday. They were R15.00 each, but that is all that they would give me. They said if I need more I should order directly from Samgrow in Cape Town.

My sister LINDI has two angora goats. She plans to harvest wool in march for the first time.

My mother Vicky has worked very hard to grow these chicks up from day olds. They no longer need lights and are now outside but still in the predator proof cage.
